Starting in 2024, Sapporo Streams has been providing guiding services to English-speaking clients who are visiting the Sapporo area. Our guide, Kevin, is not only knowledgeable about the streams in the Sapporo area, fly and lure fishing, but also speaks and reads Japanese at a conversational level to assist in any encounter you may have on the streams or to better understand the rules and manners of the Hokkaido fishing community.

Fishing is a passion for Kevin, but in addition, he’s been a teacher for 20 years and is well experienced in patient teaching, sharing knowledge, and encouraging you on your day; in other words, being a good guide! We aim to help you reach your goal for the day, whether that be to work on a specific skill, target a specific species, or simply enjoy a peaceful day in nature. As many of our past guests can attest, Kevin has explored every bend in the rivers we fish and can often point you to exactly where the fish will be sitting. He can show you the basics of how to cast and handle fish, or help you to refine a skill you’ve been working on. Beginners are very welcome.

    I started as a total beginner, and Kevin’s calm, patient way of teaching made it such an enjoyable experience. He explained everything clearly and never made me feel self-conscious, even when I lost a few of his flies!

    He takes care of every detail, from rods and flies to waders and boots, and adjusts everything to your skill level, the season, and even the day’s weather. You really don’t need to bring or worry about a thing. -Bre

    We had a great day fishing out in the Sapporo area with Kevin. He provided us with all the fishing gear needed, including rods, reels, lures and waders. And took us to beautiful places which amplified the fishing experience.

    I am grateful for his level of attention and flexibility to accommodate our needs, in particular considering that my father is close to 90 years old. We really enjoyed spending the whole day with him. -Edson

    We had the most amazing experience with our guide, Kevin. He was very thoughtful in the way that he taught Ana, my wife, how to fish as well as putting me on the best holes he could. The rivers that we finished were very easy to navigate, and the equipment that Kevin brought was very easy to use. We really appreciate you, and thanks for having us.     I would recommend Kevin as the best guy in the Sapporo area without a doubt. he was also very safety oriented, bringing bear spray for both of us and making sure that we knew how to use the bear spray.
